Custom GA, Ziricote/Bearclaw Sitka
Custom builds often give us opportunities to make use of limited tonewood batches and materials that don’t appear in our standard line. The star of this particular custom model is ziricote, a wood that often draws visual comparisons with Brazilian rosewood but delivers a musical response all its own. Rich with low-end power and warm overtones with a clear top end, it’s easy to see why ziricote has been sought after by makers of classical guitars and other nylon-string instruments.
A Sitka spruce top selected for its distinctive “bearclaw” grain helps balance the tonal output, while V-Class bracing accentuates the natural musical character of both tonewoods. Appointments favor an elegant style, including a beveled armrest in figured Hawaiian koa with matching body binding and top edge trim, a single-ring paua rosette, mother-of pearl Mission fretboard and peghead inlays, bone bridge pins marked with an Australian opal dot, and Gotoh 510 tuners in antique gold. With a beautiful Antique Blond top color treatment and a full-body gloss finish, this custom model looks as alluring as it sounds (limited to 25 pieces worldwide).
